Why did you take part in the TE Energy Quest programme?
We have had a huge focus in school on ‘Developing Scotland’s Young Workforce’ and the Energy quest programme provided an ideal opportunity to focus on the development and application of skills for the world of work and look further at possible STEM careers. It was very relent to our school and national priorities.

How have the pupils benefitted from taking part?
More awareness of career pathways into engineering and appreciate the application of theory to solving a problem.

What are the positive outcomes of taking part?
Pupils were really enthusiastic. They enjoyed meeting “real” scientists and asking them about careers. Teamwork to solve the challenge was also key to a successful day.

How has the TE Energy Quest fitted in with your curriculum?
Excellent – it works well with our energy topic, but more importantly, with the application of numeracy skills.

Why is it important to you to inspire your pupils to consider engineering as a career option?
With the projected shortfall in engineers we need to be increasing uptake in STEM subjects. I believe we are doing this at Breadalbane Academy.

What would you say to other schools thinking about taking part in the programme?
Definitely do this. In fact, if we can be considered for the programme again next year, that would be brilliant.
