The Careers and Enterprise Company has devised this toolkit with the understanding that good careers practice is key to social mobility, and recognises the importance of the influence of parents and carers on young people’s decision making.
It is particularly designed for careers leaders in schools and colleges, but can be used by anyone beginning or developing work to engage parents and carers in careers education.
It aims to help with the following three areas:
1. Maximising the effectiveness of parental engagement around careers
2. Support parents in education decision making
3. Increase participation from parents
It is divided into seven sections, including why this work matters, key principles, delivery guidance, suggested activities and how to evaluate to continue developing this work. This breakdown provides clarity of actions throughout, including links to research, current thinking and examples of other resources.
